Associate Professor Todd Gabe has a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from Ohio State University and a M.S. in Applied Economics from the University of Minnesota. He teaches courses in regional economic development and land use planning, and conducts research on topics related to regional economic development.
Dr. Gabe has published articles in a variety of outlets such as Journal of Regional Science, Review of Regional Studies, Journal of Regional Analysis and Policy, International Regional Science Review, Growth and Change, and the Journal of Travel Research. He won the University of Maine Presidential Public Service Award in 2004, and the College of Natural Sciences, Forestry and Agriculture Outstanding Public Service Award in 2005.
His recent projects have studied the growth of creative occupations in U.S. metropolitan areas; the determinants of investment in rural businesses; the impacts of cruise ship passengers in Bar Harbor, Maine; and the effects of a proposed property tax cap in Maine. Gabe has extensive experience in regional economic and fiscal impact modeling. In the past few years, he has examined the economic impacts of the Maine golf industry, Maine harness racing industry and the New England biotechnology industry.
