The School of Economics awards a number of fellowships, teaching assistantships, and research assistantships, consisting of a tuition waver plus a monthly stipend. Teaching assistants and research assistants generally work 20 hours per week.
Teaching assistants provide support to faculty members in introductory economics classes. Responsibilities include conducting review sessions, office hours when students can ask questions on a one-on-one basis, and exam preparation.
Research assistants are supported from research grants obtained by faculty members for specific projects. Duties vary according to the nature of the project and the faculty member's requirements.
Financial assistance is generally awarded on the basis of merit. The department is usually able to provide financial assistance to a majority of the full-time graduate students. The background and interests of the students can often be matched with the needs of the department.
