Graduate Info - Economics - Application Procedures
An applicant for admission must submit the following materials directly to the Graduate School, 2 Winslow Hall, University of Maine, Orono, Maine 04469-5782.
- One electronically-submitted application or TWO completed, signed, and dated copies of the downloaded Application for Admission to the Graduate School.
- Two official transcripts from each institution attended, showing the grades earned in all of the applicant's previous academic work (graduate and undergraduate) and degrees earned.
- Three letters of recommendation (on the Graduate School's recommendation forms) from persons in a position to judge the applicant's preparation for and ability to undertake graduate study. (Previous instructors or co-workers.) Letters should be forwarded directly from the writer to the Graduate School, and must be in duplicate.
- A non-refundable application fee.
- Official report of scores achieved on the GRE exam.
International students must also submit:
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores. Students from countries where the language of instruction is not English must demonstrate English competency with a minimum TOEFL of 550. Students with TOEFL scores below 550 will be required to enroll in the University's Intensive English Institute.
- A financial statement, showing proof of sufficient funds to meet all expenses while studying in the United States.
A brochure titled 'Information for Prospective International Graduate Students' can be provided by the Graduate School, which outlines in detail important information about graduate study that international students should be aware of.
