Undergraduate Information - Undergraduate Degree Programs
The School of Economics offers four degree programs as outlined below. We require a minimum GPA 2.0 and completion of a minimum of 18 credits of Economics (ECO) courses at the University of Maine.

Bachelor of Arts in Economics
The B.A. in Economics offers students valuable preparation for a variety of career paths. Students may design their programs of study: for immediate entry upon graduation into business, government, or other employment; for graduate education leading to a business administration, law, or other professional degree; or for graduate work in economics or related disciplines. The B.A. in Economics is an excellent option for double majors in mathematics, political science, and foreign language. Also, students that study economics on average score highest on the pre-law examination, LSATs, making a good connection for students to pursue studies in law.

Bachelor of Arts in Financial Economics
The B.A. in Financial Economics provides a rigorous curriculum that prepares students for careers in financial economics. The program provides exposure to economic theory at the advanced undergraduate level and to economics and finance courses that are traditionally offered separately in economics and business degree programs. The program focuses on analytical skills, with a calculus requirement more rigorous than that required for either economics or business, and with a requirement that the student take an upper-level course in economic statistics or econometrics. The curriculum for the program is distinctly different from the existing curricula in economics and business. Financial economists do very well in the job market.

Bachelor of Science in Economics
The B.S. in Economics focuses on training students in economic analysis and the functioning of economic institutions through an emphasis on analytical and mathematical techniques. The goals of the program are to train students to think analytically and critically about economic issues. Students gain a solid foundation in social science not only for further study and careers in economics, but also for careers in law, public service, business, and related fields.

Concentrations in Economics
There are currently six (6) available concentrations for all of the degree programs the School of Economics offers. These include: Renewable Energy, Agribusiness Management, International Economics, Resource and Environmental Economics and Policy, Pre-Law, Recreation Business Management, Equine Business Management.

Bachelor of Science in Ecology and Environmental Science
The B.S. in Ecology and Environmental Science (EES) is designed for students who wish to pursue an interdisciplinary environmental program of study. Each student chooses a primary area of study. Students advised by the faculty members in the School of Economics often choose the Resource and Environmental Policy; Land Use Planning; and Natural Resource Management concentrations for their primary area of study within the EES program.
