Undergraduate Info - Environmental Management and Policy

Policy Analysis Concentration
ForestThe Policy Development and Analysis concentration in the Environmental Management and Policy B.S. degree is designed for students who wish to work for a public agency or private business as an environmental policy analyst. Students enrolled in the Policy Development and Analysis concentration take foundation coursework in business and economics, applied policy courses in environmental and resource management, land use planning, environmental protection and law, environmental assessment and regulation. These courses are complemented by professional electives in ecological management such as conservation biology, pesticides and the environment and applications of geographical information systems. Potential employers for graduates include: government agencies involved in environmental protection, wildlife resource management, land use, environmental organizations, environmental consulting firms, and as compliance officers for resource-based businesses.

Economics student Environmental Pre-Law Concentration
The Environmental Pre-Law Concentration under the Environmental Management and Policy degree provides training in the economic, legal and policy aspects of environmental management and regulation, with emphasis on legal and regulatory issues. The program is intended for those students considering law related careers and those interested in pursuing law school. The Environmental Pre-Law program provides a broad education in economics, business and the technical areas required to manage environmental resources. Most graduates continue onto law school after receiving their B.S. degree. Potential employers for graduates include: government agencies, environmental organizations, environmental consulting firms, and resource-based businesses.

Adventure Recreation Management MaineBound building
Outdoor recreation is one the world’s most diverse and fastest-growing industries.  The University of Maine offers several programs specifically designed to provide students the skills that will qualify them to work in various aspects of the outdoor recreation industry.The Adventure Recreation Management concentration in the Environmental Policy and Management B.S. degree is designed for students interested in outdoor recreation policy or managing an outdoor adventure business.  The program is affiliated with University’s Maine Bound Outdoor Adventure Program, one of the most comprehensive university-based, adventure education programs in the nation. Potential employers for graduates include: government agencies, tourism organizations, and adventure recreation businesses.

Environmental Leadership and Communication Concentration
Maine DayThe Environmental Leadership and Communication concentration in the Environmental Management and Policy B.S. degree is designed for students who wish to specialize in environmental advocacy or public relations, and work for environmental organizations, public agencies, or private businesses. Students enrolled in the Environmental Leadership and Communication concentration take communications courses such as persuasive and analytical writing, technical writing and communication in public service as well as foundation coursework in business and economics, applied policy courses in environmental and resource management, land use planning, environmental protection and law, environmental assessment and regulation. These courses are complemented by professional electives in ecological management such as conservation biology, and applications of geographical information systems. Potential employers for graduates include: government agencies, environmental organizations, environmental consulting firms, and resource-based businesses.

Graduate Study
The Environmental Management and Policy degree provides a strong academic background for students who wish to pursue graduate studies. Students are prepared for graduate studies in Environmental Policy, Resource Economics and Policy, Applied Economics, Law, or other related fields.
