
Joye holds a master’s degree from NYU in educational theatre, and works as a teacher, actor, playwright, and director. She is currently the Director of Education and Outreach at Penobscot Theatre in Bangor, Maine. Before moving to Maine she taught at Hunter College Campus School for the Gifted in Manhattan where she also directed many school productions. In addition to teaching and directing adolescents, Joye has worked with older adults teaching acting and leading reminiscence workshops. She also teaches a course for Senior College in association with Penobscot Theatre Company’s productions. Joye’s work has also included leading therapeutic drama workshops for at-risk teens and mentally ill populations through Creative Alternatives of New York. Theatrically, Joye has worked as a playwright and actor in the intergenerational troupe Roots and Branches Theatre Company in NYC. Her play Onion Girl, written about her native Iowa, was a sell-out success at the 2004 New York International Fringe Festival. And most recently her short play Boys Counting Down has had readings in PTC’s Northern Writes New Play Festival and in Portland. Joye appeared last year in Last of the Red Hot Lovers and Night of the Iguana both at PTC. She has directed The Santaland Diaries for the last two seasons and will direct A Tuna Christmas this coming December at PTC. She lives in Bangor with her husband Scott, daughter Ellie and soon to be expected baby boy!
