Introducing: UMaine Youth Music!
Saturdays: Feb. 28- April 4, 2009
What
is UMaine Youth Music? UMaine Youth Music is a community-based music program
designed for aspiring young musicians in grades 6-8. Offered by the
Music Division at The University of Maine, this innovative new program
is designed to supplement the young musical community by nurturing each student’s
talent in keyboard, music theory, and also provide group lessons on a wide
variety of instruments.
What does UYM offer? Music Education! UMaine Youth Music is designed to expand each student's knowledge in theory, piano, and group lessons on a wide variety of instruments.
What instruments are taught? The applied group lessons offered are as follows: flute, clarinet, oboe, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, low brass, violin, cello, guitar, voice, and percussion. It should be noted that there is a minimum of two students per applied lesson class.
What is the schedule for a typical
Saturday? One hour of music theory, followed
by one hour of keyboard class, and an hour of applied instrumental group lessons.
There is also a bit of time for a snack break.
When and where does UMaine Youth Music take place? The six week program is held on six consecutive Saturdays: Feb. 28-April 4 from 9am - Noon and is offered in the Class of 1944 Hall on the beautiful University of Maine campus in Orono.
What else should you know? Class sizes are configured so as to encourage as much personal attention for each student as is needed and will be taught by upper level music students and overseen by the School of Performing Arts faculty. The group lessons will include instruction on basic technique and playing together in small groups.
So, why should you be a part of UYM? UMaine Youth Music is a fantastic opportunity for young musicians to not only harness and nurture their musical talent, but to also expand their knowledge in a fun and exciting environment, all while making new friends!
