Wanda Whitener

Wanda Whitener lives in Lamoine, Maine and has been teaching music at the Tremont Consolidated School (K-8) in Bass Harbor for the past 19 years. She is presently the Horn Instructor at the University of Maine in Orono. She has attended the Peabody Conservatory of Music; has a BS in Music Education and Master’s in Instrumental Conducting from UM. She is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Mu Phi Epsilon, MENC and the Maine Music Educators Association. She has studied horn with Robert Pierce of the Baltimore Symphony; Robert Abernathy of the National Symphony, Philip Nesbitt of UM, and Suzanne George, free-lance horn in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Maine and Massachusetts. Wanda is presently a member of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra, the Acadia Brass Ensemble, the Maine Music Society Chamber Orchestra, the Hancock County Gilbert & Sullivan Society Orchestra, and free-lances in Maine. She has performed with the Portland Opera Repertory Orchestra, Maine Chamber Orchestra, the Maine Grand Opera Orchestra, Portuguese Embassy Symphony, Morgan State Symphony, and the Mu Phi Epsilon Women’s Brass Quintet.
