Dr. Laura Artesani

Dr.
Laura Artesani is the Music Coordinator for the School of Performing
Arts at the University of Maine, where she also teaches courses in
the areas of music history, music education, keyboard musicianship,
and Women's Studies. She currently serves as the piano accompanist
for three choral ensembles at the School of Performing Arts: the University
Singers, the Oratorio Society and the Athena Consort. She also performs
frequently at faculty and student recitals. Dr.
Artesani graduated summa cum laude from Barrington College in Rhode
Island with a degree in music education, and received an M.M. in piano
performance from the University of Maine. She earned a D.M.A. in piano
performance from West Virginia University, where she was the recipient
of the Swiger Teaching Fellowship for four years. In 1998, Dr. Artesani
received a curriculum grant from the Women's Studies department at
the University of Maine to develop a course entitled Women and Music.
In 2001 she received a Diversity Across the Curriculum grant to support
further research for this course. In
addition to her duties at the University of Maine, Dr. Artesani is
also the Music Director at the Old Town United Methodist Church. She
has taught at The Lincoln School in Providence, RI; North Orrington
and Center Drive Schools in Orrington, ME; and the Stillwater Montessori
School.
