Wanda Whitener

Wanda Whitener has been teaching music at the Tremont Consolidated School (K-8) in Bass Harbor for the past 18 years and is the Music Coordinator for Union 98 (MDI). She is presently the Horn Instructor at the University of Maine. Wanda attended the Peabody Conservatory of Music, has a BS in Music Education from the University of Maine and is presently working to finish her Masters in Instrumental Conducting from UMaine in May 2004. She has studied horn with Robert Pierce of the Baltimore Symphony; Robert Abernathy of the National Symphony, Philip Nesbitt of UM, and Suzanne George, free-lance horn in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Maine and Massachusetts. Wanda is a member of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra, the Acadia Brass Ensemble, the Maine Music Society Chamber Orchestra, and the Hancock County Gilbert & Sullivan Society Orchestra; and she has played with the Portland Opera Repertory Orchestra, Maine Chamber Orchestra, Portugese Emabassy Symphony, Morgan State Symphony, and free-lance in Maine.

Wanda lives in Lamoine, Maine with her husband and three cats. Her daughter is studying for her Doctorate in English at the University of Alabama; and her son is studying for his Master’s in Tuba at Yale.
