TRiO-Student Support Services Program


Student Support Services Program

TRiO-Student Support ServicesThe Student Support Services Program is designed to assist students at UMaine who are: from low-income families, first generation college students (whose parent has not earned a bachelor's degree), and/or students with disabilities. Student Support Services is a TRiO Program, funded by the U.S. Department of Education. UMaine SSS is affiliated with the Maine Educational Opportunity Association (MEEOA), New England Educational Opportunity Association (NEOA) and Council for Opportunity in Education (COE).

SSS News

The Bangor Daily News Web site posted an article entitled "UM education major finds support from federal program" on September 19, 2010. It focused on program services and featured a student, Luelen Suchan.

The University was recently notified by the US Department of Education that our Student Support Services (SSS) Program has received 5 more years of funding. The new grant cycle begins September 1, 2010!

Available Services

Services for SSS students are designed to address personal, academic, and financial needs. These include:

  • Counseling Services
  • Personal Counseling
  • Academic Counseling
  • Career Counseling
  • Financial Aid Counseling
  • Financial Literacy Workshops
  • Information Referral Services (financial aid, housing, TANF/PAS)

Financial Literacy 101 - now available!

Financial Literacy 101 is an online financial literacy course designed for the specific challenges faced by today's college student. It is available for free to all Program students. Contact your TRiO-SSS Counselor or call 581-2320 for your access code. Here's your link to Financial Literacy!
