Strategic Plan

First Annual Implementation Progress Report

Progress on:

Progress on Objective 4

Expand and Improve Graduate Education
Strategic Plan Goals 1,3,4,5

Raising graduate enrollment to 3,000 within 5 years
(See Tables OIS.11- OIS.17.)

-UMaine graduate enrollments have increased from 2,241 in Fall 2003 to 2,324 in Fall 2007 (Table OIS.11)—2.29% in five years.

-There is variability among colleges in these trends (Table OIS.11). For example, NSFA generally has generally declined in graduate enrollments over this time (from 399 to 357).

-Similarly, there is variability in this regard among departments within colleges (Tables OIS.12, OIS.13, OIS.14, OIS.15, OIS.16, OIS.17).

-Based on these data alone, a target graduate enrollment of 3,000 students within five years would appear to be rather ambitious.

Additional info from College reports

-The Psychology Department has revamped its Psychological Sciences / Experimental Psychology Ph.D. track, and begun publicizing it nationally.

-The Music Department designed a new Master's-level concentration in Collaborative Piano.
