Assigning functions of an undergraduate research office (U-GRO) to
existing unit
-The Center for Undergraduate Research (CUGR) [formerly referred to as
Undergraduate Research Office or U-GRO] at the University of Maine will
provide leadership, coordination, and support for undergraduate research
across the campus. CUGR will be administered through the Honors College
and directed by a faculty member with a one-course release per semester.
-The center and the director will be advised by a board representing
constituents in the undergraduate research enterprise and staffed by a
full-time (20 hours/week) graduate assistant.
The CUGR hopes to:
- Recognize and publicize current
undergraduate research opportunities and initiatives
- Provide links between research
opportunities and interested undergraduate students
- Contribute to a campus environment
in which undergraduate research opportunities are increased and
expanded
- Identify and explore extramural
funding sources for undergraduate research
- Develop and foster relationships
among entities both on- and off-campus providing opportunities for
undergraduate research
- Work to establishing a
university-wide grant program for undergraduate research
- Facilitate the production of a
journal highlighting undergraduate research
- Increase UMaine's participation with
both the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) and the National
Conferences on Undergraduate Research (NCUR)
