Office of Student Financial Aid

Office of Student Financial Aid

Welcome to the University of Maine Office of Student Financial Aid!

The Student Financial Aid Office administers various federal, state and university aid programs to help University of Maine students finance their education. We award and process financial aid for University of Maine students and advise students and their families, the campus community, and the general public on issues related to financial aid.

Spring Semester Office Hours 10:00 - 4:30

During the spring semester, the Office of Student Financial Aid will be closed until 10:00 a.m. for training.  Please contact us between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.  We're taking this time to build and learn MaineStreet so we can better assist you with your future needs.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.  Thank you for your patience.

The Opportunity Maine Program - Important Information!!

Opportunity Maine is a new program that was passed by the Maine State Legislature in the Summer of 2007.  It became effective on January 1, 2008.  The Financial Aid Office wants to be sure that all students are aware of the program and take the necessary steps to enroll in the program.  Click here to learn more about this program!

Click on Student Opportunity Contract and Disclosure Statement and print a copy of the Student Opportunity Contract and Disclosure Statement to sign and return to the Student Financial Aid Office.

File your FAFSA for 2008-2009

You must file for financial aid every year and you can file your 2008-2009 FAFSA starting January 1, 2008.  For priority consideration, the Federal Processing Center must receive your FAFSA by March 1, 2008.  Meeting our March 1 priority deadline allows us to consider you for all types of aid and provide you with the best financial aid package possible.  We recommend you file by February 15 to make sure you meet the deadline.

You do not have to have your 2007 taxes done in order to file.  Instead, simply indicate on your FAFSA that you "will file" and estimate your income.

We recommend that you apply electronically using FAFSA on the Web (www.fafsa.ed.gov).  However, if you wish to file a paper FAFSA, call the U.S. Department of Education at 1-800-433-3243 and request a FAFSA.  Click here for additional information on the application process.

UMaine's school code is 002053.

2008-2009 Award Information

For information regarding 2008-2009 financial aid awards, click here.  Student can view their actual financial aid award by visiting the Financial Aid segment of WebDSIS.

FAFSA on the Web

The first step in receiving financial aid is to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  All students are required to file the FAFSA every year in order to be considered for all types of Federal financial aid, as well as most types of University and State financial aid.  We recommend that you file electronically using FAFSA on the Web.
