Work Merit

University Work Merit funds are available to provide a relevant employment experience to academically talented returning undergraduate students with sophomore or higher standing who wish to work on campus in an academically challenging position that will enhance their academic experience. Students must be enrolled half-time in a degree program and have a University of Maine Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.2 or higher to apply for Work Merit.

Students who are awarded Work Merit will be funded at no cost to their employer. Decisions will be announced on or before October 1, 2007.

Awards will be up to $1,000.00 for the Academic Year. Amounts will depend on the student and employer requests. Students may hold only one Work Merit position at a time and are permitted to work a combined total of 20 hours per week for all of their on-campus jobs.

If requests exceed available funding, eligible students will be prioritized as follows:

1. University of Maine GPA of 3.5 higher

a. Seniors
b. Juniors
c. Sophomores

2. University of Maine GPA of 3.2 to 3.49

a. Seniors
b. Juniors
c. Sophomore

Students must maintain an overall University of Maine GPA of 3.2 or higher in order to continue to receive funding under this program.

IMPORTANT: If your application is approved, and you have not previously been a University employee, or have not worked here during the last year, you will need to complete State & Federal W-4’s , an I-9 form, and direct deposit authorization form at the Student Employment, 5781 Wingate Hall or Student Payroll Office, 134 Corbett Hall.
