New Students for Fall 2008

Please visit soon for updated Maine Hello information for Fall 2008

The MAINE Hello for 2008 will be on August 29, as the first day of the Welcome Weekend. When you arrive you’ll be greeted by PAWS and Greek Greeters (returning residence hall students or students affiliated with a Greek organization) and Greeters (faculty and staff) who will assist you in, getting to your hall , unloading your vehicle and settling into your new campus home. These MAINE Hello volunteers will also be available to answer your question and help you feel at home. Look for anyone in a Blue MAINE Hello shirt for assistance and “A Hearty MAINE Hello.” Be sure to introduce yourself, you may be welcomed by the dean of your college, your residence hall neighbor or the University President!

Questions about your campus assignment should be addressed to Housing Services http://www.umaine.edu/housing

Preparing for MAINE Hello

1.      Check the What to bring /What not to bring list on the Housing Services web site http://www. maine.edu/housing

2.      Contact your new assigned roommate over the summer; you’ll save packing doubles if you can work out who brings what.

3.      Label your boxes and items (TV, small fridge etc.) on the outside with your name, residence hall and room number. This will make it easier for MAINE Hello volunteers to help you move in.

4.      Print the 2008 MAINE Hello Map and bring it with you when you come to campus on August 29, 2008. Your arrival will be easiest if you use the UMaine campus entrance that is color coded to your assigned residence hall.

5.      When you arrive at any of the campus entrances, there will be staff available to give directions, you don’t need to stop but they are there if you have any questions.

6.      When you arrive at the hall/welcome lot, look for a MAINE Hello Leader.  He/She will explain where to park your vehicle and how the MAINE Hello works.

7.      Check out the schedule for Welcome Weekend, August 29-Sept 1, 2008. http://www.umaine.edu/orientation/agenda_fall.htm

Be sure to attend the rest of the Welcome Weekend activities and continue to share a “Hearty MAINE Hello” with every new friend you make.
