Media Boards - Meeting Minutes: December 2, 2008
Present: Gus Burkett (CASE), Joe Carr (University Relations), Andrea Gifford (Student Affairs), Tom Grucza (WMEB), Sunny Hughes (Communication and Journalism), Michael Murphy (WMEB), Dave Nickerson (Maine Channel), and Kenda Scheele (Student Affairs).
Meeting began at 3:00 p.m. in Room 315 Memorial Union. The board discussed the possibility of creating podcasts, audio and video for instructors. Sunny suggested hiring a station production manager who would be responsible for equipment and productions for the Maine Channel/TV studio. This might help organize the studio and curb any conflicts between use of the Maine Channel’s equipment and the Communication and Journalism Department’s equipment. The Maine Channel also asked the group for ideas about how to increase and sustain interest and participation in the Maine Channel. There was also a brief discussion about whether/where WMEB might relocate (no immediate plans). The purpose for a move would be to give WMEB more visibility. The group revisited the discussion from the first meeting (in November 2008) regarding compliance with the Student Handbook and other applicable policies, procedures (e.g., Student Government, Inc.). Finally, the board discussed ideas for improving the academic connection between the Maine Channel and WMEB.
