MProject - First Year Guides

If you are a returning student, enthusiastic, and care about the success and well-being of other students, you would be a great guide. By contributing your talents and personality to the UMaine community, you would actively take part in creating an improved academic and social atmosphere for new students.

Benefits for Guides:

  • Gain valuable hands on experience in a leadership role

  • Learn the “how to” of programming from development to implementation

  • Interact with professional faculty and staff in the Division of Student Affairs and across campus

  • Build their community service resume

  • Guide first year students through their transition from high school to college

  • Get involved, meet people, make new friends

  • Advocate for your University organizations and clubs

  • Recognition for a job well done—Guide of the Month awards, Guide of the Year awards.

M-Project Guide Expectations:

  • Complete online M Project Application and interview process.

  • Attend “Pre” Guide Training in the Spring (TBA, April 2009)

  • Attend Guide Training in the Fall (August 2009 TBA)

  • Sign up and participate in the Maine Hello on August 28th, 2009

  • Attend Fall Welcome Weekend events as assigned—floor meetings, convocation, and motivational speaker on 8/29.

  • Work well within a team based atmosphere

  • Attend all building/complex based team meetings

  • Attend M Project meetings held once per month

  • Turn information in to team leaders in a timely fashion

  • Run/Attend a Minimum of one program per week. (Approximate time commitment =1-3hrs/week)

  • Attend seminars/programs as part of the U Maine College Experience program

  • Meet regularly and collaborate with the Office of First and Second Year Programs for trainings, professional development, outings, and staff meetings.

  • Ongoing collaboration with the Office of Residence Life

  • Assist with Maine Day activities in the Spring as requested

  • Attend Student Affairs Award Ceremony in the Spring

  • Follow ALL rules and regulations of the Student Conduct Code at www.umaine.edu/handbook
