Research and Demonstration of Innovative Drinking Water Treatment Technologies in Small Systems – deadline 8/25/2011
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as part of its Science to Achieve Results (STAR) program, is seeking applications proposing to conduct research necessary to identify, develop and demonstrate novel and innovative treatment technologies and approaches for small public drinking water systems. Successful technologies should be robust, sustainable and be able to treat or mitigate groups of contaminants or contaminant precursors in drinking water sources and systems. EPA is seeking new, or innovative, modifications of existing treatment technologies that can perform significantly better than current technologies. These technologies may include those which are used to retrofit or augment existing treatment trains; treatment practices or technologies aimed at contaminant or contaminant precursor reduction in source waters; and technologies used within the distribution system including point-of-use (POU) devices. Identifying technologies that have the potential to be “game-changing” may involve considering national and international sources as well as considering input from those who have not traditionally participated in environmental conversations, including Minority Academic Institutions (MAIs) as defined in Section I.A.

  • 21st Century Science Initiative 2011
    Research Award Application Deadline:
    15:59 CDT on Tuesday March 15, 2011

The James S. McDonnell Foundation announces updated program descriptions and application guidelines for its 21st Century Science Initiative Research Awards. The 21st Century Research Awards support investigator-initiated research in two (2) topical
areas: Studying Complex Systems and Brain Cancer Research. Program information, application guidelines, and proposal preparation instructions are available on the website. No geographic restrictions; international applications are encouraged.

Information on the Foundation's 21st Century Collaborative Activity Awards is also available on the website. The Foundation offers Collaborative Activity Awards to initiate interdisciplinary discussions on problems or issues, to help launch interdisciplinary research networks, or to fund communities of researchers/ practitioners dedicated to developing new methods, tools, and applications of basic research to applied problems. In each case the focus of the collaborative activity must meet the program guidelines for one of the following program areas: studying complex systems, brain cancer research, understanding human cognition.

  • RBC Blue Water Project Grants
RBC has a longstanding commitment to environmental sustainability. Water has become an integral part of that commitment, as water is fundamental to the sustainability of all life on the planet. The first phase of the RBC Blue Water Project, announced in late 2007, is a grant program of $50 million over ten years to support charitable initiatives that foster a culture of water stewardship.
Leadership Grants. Ranging from $25,000 to $500,000, these grants focus on watershed protection and/or access to safe drinking water and are available to local, regional, national or trans-border organizations for projects in any of the countries in which RBC is located, including Canada, the United States, the Caribbean and the UK. Deadlines for applications are June 30 and March 1 annually. Applications received after a deadline will be deferred to the next funding period.
Community Action Grants: Ranging from $1,000 to $5,000, these grants are focused on watershed protection and are available to local or community organizations in Canada, United States or the Caribbean. Some restrictions apply. Applications are accepted year long, starting in June, 2008.
