In FY 1999 the University of Maine attracted $35,448,692 in extramural research funding. Of that, $30,344,571 was the result of competitive awards. The University committed $5,684,606 in matching funds to attract those competitive awards. Matching funds thus returned $5.34 for every dollar spent. There are four main sources of extramural funding. Federal dollars comprise over 80% of the outside research dollars that flow into the University. | ||

$4.5 million of MEIF investments served as matching funds that attracted $18.8 million from out of state sources. Pending proposals may attract an additional $9.1 million. | ||
