Welcome!

Welcome to the Transitions Program! Being accepted into Transitions means you have an opportunity to live and study at a major public university, the University of Maine, known for its high level of academics and friendly, welcoming atmosphere. As a Transitions student you will take the following classes:

TRS 100

* Students may be placed in alternate courses pending the results of placement exams.

Math Placement Exam

Math graphicAs a First-Year student, you are strongly encouraged to take the Math Placement Exam. The exam is web-based, may be taken multiple times, and should be taken as soon as possible. The Math Placement Exam results are used to enroll students in the appropriate level math course for their capabilities.

Students who do not wish to take the Math Placement Exam or students who do not successfully complete any section of the Math Placement Exam will automatically be enrolled in the Transitions Program section of MAT 103.

To log into WebCT you will need your UMS (University of Maine System) ID and password. If you have not already done so, you can activate your account online at mail.maine.edu. If you require assistance please phone the IT Help Center at 207-581-2506 or through the new in-state toll free number, 1-866-560-6280.

***Please note that it may take up to 24 hours after activating your UMS account for you to be able to access the math placement exam.

Orientation

As a mandatory component of the Transitions Program, all accepted students will be required to arrive on the University of Maine campus, Wednesday, August 27, 2008, for the Transitions Program Orientation. Failure to attend the Orientation will result in withdrawal from UMaine and Transitions. After the students arrive on campus Wednesday afternoon, they will take an English Placement Exam. Following the exam, they will join the Transitions faculty, as well as family and friends for a welcome barbecue on the quad located by the freshman dormitories. Fall Welcome Weekend!Following the barbecue, at 6 pm, family and friends will help the students move into their assigned dorm room.
