Process for signing up for a tutor:
To request a tutor, students must first meet with a Tutor Program staff member.
Appointments to request a tutor occur every half hour Monday through Friday, beginning no later than the third week of each semester.
Log-on to Synapse, using your MaineStreet id and password, to schedule an appointment to request a tutor.
After the appointment, tutors are assigned based on the course, professor, time and tutor availability.
Students may only request one tutor per semester due to limited funds and staff.
Once assigned, students continue to work with their tutors throughout the semester.
The Tutor Program’s role is to help students “learn how to learn.” Tutoring provides the discipline; consistency and continuity students need to keep up with their academics. There is no “magic formula” involved. Tutoring can help increase a student’s overall understanding of course material and enhance performance, depending upon the time, energy and effort the individual student commits to the learning process.
Last year, nearly 800 students utilized our services in 80-90 different courses. Help yourself to succeed and call us today at 581-2351, stop by the office located in 104 Dunn Hall or log-on to Synapse to schedule an appointment.
