Cumberland County Maine Plant a Row for the Hungry

What is Gleaning?

Gleaning is an ancient tradition still practiced in Cumberland County and elsewhere. After farmers or fruit growers have harvested their crop, they allow people into their fields or orchards to gather the fruit which they did not harvest.

Several Cumberland County farmers and fruit growers have agreed to support Plant-A-Row by contacting the Extension Office when they have an opportunity for PAR participants to come to gather the remaining, unharvested produce which will then be donated to local food pantries.

If you would like to volunteer as a PAR Gleaner, please click mouse here to send an e-mail to the Extension office with your name, telephone number
and e-mail address.
