Home Horticulture in Penobscot County

garden at Rogers FarmThe demand for home horticulture information increases each year as more homeowners expand their garden and landscape plantings. Classroom contacts are made through a variety of programs, including Master Gardener training, adult education programs and one-time gardening programs. Volunteers in the Master Gardener and Master Composter programs make over 2,000 contacts per year, providing information on gardening and composting to homeowners. One of the key components to the horticulture program in the county is the Master Gardener Demonstration Garden located at the University's Rogers Farm on Bennoch Road in Stillwater. This one-acre plot is planted and maintained by Master Gardener volunteers. The plot is used as a teaching area to bring horticulture information to homeowners and greenhouse operators. It is open to the public daily throughout the growing season.
