Lobster Bake & Fundraiser
Blueberry Cove Camp

In order to help raise money for the campaign, "Make it Happen," for Blueberry Cove, Tanglewood offered raffle items, a silent auction, and a live auction run by Humble Farmer.  Raffle items included dining extravaganzas at fine local eateries and a Swans Island Blanket Throw. This was the 4th annual fundraiser held by Tanglewood and was a great success.

The silent auction was for 20 folk-art style birdhouses that were donated by Frank Simon, President of the Tanglewood Board.  Tanglewood also held a live auction of a signed Jamie Wyeth Print and a carved stone that was managed by the legendary Humble Farmer.  In order to finish the campaign that made Blueberry Cove possible, Tanglewood needs to raise an additional $200,000 to meet its 1.1 million dollar goal.

Campus Renovation Projects

The Maine” is the dining hall and kitchen for the camp.  This year, Tanglewood has been able to repaint the building, work on some ADA compliance issues, and install a proper door.

The Puffin” is one of the cabins at the camp.  This year, Tanglewood was able to renovate the cabin by installing new siding, a new entrance with a small deck and a new roof, and all the windows were painted.  This cabin will now serve as a model for all of the other cabins with a consistent style now exemplified by the Puffin.  Renovating this cabin brings Tanglewood another step closer to offering Residential Camp Programs at Blueberry Cove.

The Periwinkle” is a central building consisting of the campus office and housing for the summer camp directors.  The building was renovated inside and out to better accommodate staff needs.  Renovations include an ADA compliant bathroom, a kitchen, new siding, a new deck, and an ADA compliant entrance.  The renovation of this building was imperative, as the staff require adequate facilities to manage programs.  Adding this improved building to the resources of Blueberry Cove brings Tanglewood closer to realizing its vision for the camp.

Blueberry Cove Programs

Tanglewood offered the popular Day Camp program again this year at Blueberry Cove.  This program is modeled from the same program held at Tanglewood’s Lincolnville Campus.  Last year, it was very successful and this year proves no different.  Enrollment matches that of last year, and the season is not finished yet!

In collaboration with 4-H, Tanglewood offered a GPS/GIS camp at Blueberry Cove this summer for 4-H members.  A dozen youth from all over the state spent three nights and four days at Blueberry Cove, sleeping in cabins, participating in activities, and learning about GIS.  At the end of the program, the youth presented projects to a group of educators, Tanglewood board members, Tanglewood staff members, and parents illustrating all that they learning over the course of the program.  This program was very successful, and plans are now in place to offer the program again next year.
