Blueberry Cove Day Camp Counselor

As a Day Camp Counselor, you will have a great opportunity to improve your leadership skills by attending a week-long training and integrating your own experiences into daily camp practice.  You will also learn about Maine’s outdoors, make new friends, have fun, and make a difference in the lives of many young people through positive interactions.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with leading and evaluation of a daily camp program that offers hands-on environmental learning for campers ages 6 - 10.  Activities will be offered in outdoor and indoor areas and include boating, sustainable living, marine ecology, art, drama, music, and cooperation
  • Create the necessary atmosphere for a positive camp experience
  • Participate in staff meetings and contribute to the ongoing improvement of the day camp program
  • Support the Day camp Coordinator in welcoming parents, providing a safe atmosphere, and doing other duties as assigned
  • Live in cabin with overnight campers for 2 weeks (July 20-August 1)
  • Take part in cleaning and upkeep of program spaces
Qualifications:
  • Alert, energetic, flexible, creative, enthusiastic team layer, appreciate the natural world
  • Completed senior year in high school
  • Previous camp or related experience working with youth
  • Ability to lead groups outdoors over various terrain
  • First Aid and Basic Life Support certification
  • Ability to live locally and commute to the day camp in Tenant's Harbor

Preferred:  Canoe/boating experience, lifeguard certification

Dates: June 22-August 8, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily, except during overnight camp in July.

Compensation:  $1250, base for complete duration of position
