Tanglewood Day Camp Counselor

As a Day Camp Counselor, you will have a great opportunity to improve your leadership skills by attending a week-long training and integrating your own experiences into daily camp practice.  You will also learn about Maine’s outdoors, make new friends, have fun, and make a difference in the lives of many young people through positive interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with leading and evaluation of a daily camp program that offers hands-on environmental learning for campers ages 6-9.  Topics such as the water cycle, insects, birds, forest and freshwater ecology are taught through exploration, games, puppetry, art, songs and stories.  Swimming is also a daily activity.
  • Participate in staff training and meetings to contribute to the ongoing improvement of the day camp program
  • Support the Day Camp Coordinator in welcoming parents, providing a safe atmosphere, and doing other duties as assigned
  • Take part in cleaning and upkeep of program spaces

Qualifications:

  • Alert, energetic, flexible, creative, enthusiastic team layer, appreciate the natural world
  • Completed senior year in high school
  • Previous camp or related experience working with youth
  • Ability to lead groups outdoors over various terrain
  • First Aid and Basic Life Support certification
  • Ability to live locally and commute to the day camp in Lincolnville
  • Preferred:  canoe/boating experience, life guard certification

Dates:  June 16-August 15, 2008

Compensation:  $1600 for complete season
