APPENDIX E CLIPPING METHOD TO ESTIMATE STAND PRODUCTIVITY Clipping
method.
1.
Clip the forage in 1 square yard of
pasture. Clip at the height to which
you would like to graze. (This
varies with species.)
2.
Weigh all of the forage collected.
Record the total weight of the sample (for example, 2.07 lbs./sq. yd).
3.
Determine the % forage dry matter (DM): a)
Weigh
an empty paper plate. Record weight
of plate (for example, 1 oz).
