Camp Counselor/Facilities Assistant

As a Camp Counselor / Facilities Assistant, you will improve your leadership skills by attending a week-long training.  You will also increase confidence and knowledge of camp sanitation through working with excellent maintenance coordinators around the camp facility, learn about Maine’s outdoors, make new friends, have fun, and make a difference in the lives of many young people through positive interactions.

Responsibilities:

  • Live in a cabin with campers and, along with a co-counselor, create the necessary atmosphere for a positive camp experience (staff/camper ratio = 1: 4)
  • Assist facilities crew with keeping camp clean and sanitary
  • Role model healthy living, positive energy and clear communication
  • Help to plan and carry out other camp activities: evening programs, special days, opening and closing ceremonies, etc.
  • Lead afternoon electives for campers
  • Participate actively in staff meetings and contribute to the ongoing improvement of the camp program.
  • Participate in community chores, meal preparation and service and miscellaneous maintenance duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Alert, energetic, flexible, creative, enthusiastic team player, appreciate the natural world
  • Work efficiently in areas of cleaning and sanitation
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently, and follow directions well
  • Completed senior year in high school
  • Previous camp or related experience working with youth
  • Ability to lead groups outdoors over various terrain
  • First Aid and Basic Life Support certification

Compensation:   $1700/summer, base salary; room and board.

Dates: June 22 to August 16, 2008
