Hold it, llama pardnerEveryone loves a fair!

Acton fair has something for the entire family. A stroll through agriculture exhibits gives the old a chance to remember their past and the young an opportunity to learn where their food comes from and the economic value agriculture has on their community.   Not only are fairs educational, but they are entertaining and fun. After sampling a variety of food on the fairgrounds, visitors might choose to enjoy some of the available entertainment options. Visitors can then stroll through arts and grange hall exhibits, and take in a ride or two.

York County 4-H youth have a rich history of participation in Acton Fair.

Over one hundred 4-H youth each year exhibit projects in the 4-H Exhibit Hall.  They have spent the year learning critical life skills such as teamwork, leadership, goal setting, cooperation, community service and character.  Their fair exhibits are a tangible, visible outcome of their 4-H education. You will also encounter 4-H youth in the Food Booth, where they are learning valuable cooperative and service skills.  And you will find them in the show rings, where they are showing beef, dairy, llama, goats, sheep and other animals.  You will find them riding in horse programs, and preparing rabbits for a "costume" show.

When you encounter and interact with 4-H members at the fair you will learn that there are less tangible outcomes to their 4-H experience that cannot be displayed in the Exhibit Hall.  These are great youth!

Fairs and exhibitions have a significant impact on our York County and Maine communities. They are a gathering place for the young and old and offer the public a place to gather, compete and volunteer their services.  Our 4-H youth, parents and leaders have a proud heritage of participation in Acton Fair.
