Open Farm Day
We will be hosting an exhibit
by the Maine Antique Power Association of operational "one-lungers" or "hit or
miss" engines that were used from the 1890's to the 1940's to power farm
machinery. We will also have a blacksmith operation an historic forge, as
well as, a spinning demonstration and poultry exhibit. We will be open
from 9-4. Open to the public; donations are welcome.
Picnic
Activities Include:
This is the annual pre-1940
picnic reminiscent of the period of the museum, 1865 to 1940. We ask that you
bring food to share with others, in the tradition of this earlier era, but food
that was common at picnics during this time: sandwiches or salad or breads or
garden fresh vegetables and fruit. Perhaps you will bring some of your old
traditional recipes to share. Invite your children and grandchildren and let us
show them what life used to be like.
Children Wanted
Families with children are
encouraged to come
We will provide desserts,
beverages, including homemade lemonade. We will make ice cream the
old-fashioned way with hand-turned ice cream freezers. Even the youngest
children can participate in the ice cream making activity. We get enough
assistance from our guests so that "many hands will make light work" and
everyone has fun.
Included in the day's
activities will be opportunities to see the museum's old farm equipment,
"Brownie's Kitchen," and many new exhibits. The General Store will sell the
traditional touring sun bonnets in all sizes, and many other activities for
participants of all ages. Please participate, lead an activity, join in however
you wish, or just watch. In the event of rain we will move into the barn.
There will be a large open tent for shade.
Please bring your own lawn
chairs and/or blankets to sit on. We will have a few picnic tables.
