UMaine is committed to promoting healthy lifestyles. One excellent way to achieve such a goal is by joining Latti Fitness Center, a sprawling, state-of-the-art facility in which students, faculty and staff can work out together in a fun atmosphere filled with the latest in exercise machines, free weights and cardio equipment. Here, friendships are formed and the camaraderie is apparent.
The new location for the Department of Art is Lord
Hall, which recently underwent an extensive, $5.375 million
renovation. The hall opened in 1904 as an engineering building. It
also has been home to music, journalism and other UMaine academic
departments. The new facility, which still includes many
historical features, includes a gallery with 210 feet of exhibit
space.
The
Lyle E. Littlefield Ornamentals Trial Garden is a seven-acre facility
dedicated to research, teaching, and demonstration of ornamental plants.
The facility houses the Littlefield Garden, which is open to the public,
and the Research Center, which is dedicated to plant production and
maintenance research. The extensive collections provide a valuable
resource for the study and observation of ornamental plants.
UMaine’s Maine Center for the Arts is the premiere venue for the arts in Eastern Maine. Its Hutchins Concert Hall features a state-of-the-art, 1,629 seat theater that hosts a wide variety of events, including classical and contemporary music, dance, theater, comedy, and lectures.
The Memorial Union is the heart of university, the main place students, faculty and staff congregate to socialize. It offers a wide-range of services, housing the Bookstore, the Union Marketplace, the Computer Connection, the Bear's Den and Student Government. A recent $12.5 million expansion and renovation has left it transformed.
At the Union Marketplace, students, faculty and staff have access to a wide range of options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Need a caffeine fix? Try an espresso at Starbucks. Interested in a light lunch? The fresh salad bar and a wrap at M.C. Fernald await. Also in the Marketplace are the Union Bake House,
Ancho Grill, The Black Bear Grill, Maine Street Diner, and Salumaria. Your friends will be here, too.
