This program offers extreme flexibility, as the videos can be viewed at any time during the week. There will be a weekly chat session with instructor Laura Wilson available to answer questions and talk about the prior week’s session.

This online orientation course will teach you what threatens Maine lakes, and show you how to protect YOUR lake. This program is designed for lakefront landowners, town officials, code enforcement officers, planners, and landscapers. The material is appropriate for high-school students as well as adults. We talk about:

  • What’s polluting your lake?
  • Lakes 101—How Lakes Work
  • Invasive aquatic species
  • Lakefront landscapes and buffers
  • Shoreland zoning and other regulations
  • Camp roads
  • Septic Systems

Participants in the online program are expected to complete 10 hours of volunteer service within one year of the program.

There is a $25.00 registration fee. Scholarships are available.

Participants will receive the course website address via e-mail upon registration. A password will be required to enter the site to access the course videos. Instructor Laura Wilson will be available in the course chat room weekly for live Q&A.

This course is designed for users with access to high-speed internet.
