Science Information Coordinator
The University of Maine’s Senator George J. Mitchell Center invites applications for the position of Science Information Coordinator for the Diadromous Species Restoration Research Network. This position will facilitate and enhance communications, outreach and research activities as part of a research coordination network focused on diadromous fish species in eastern North America, with an emphasis on the Penobscot River.
The Science Information Coordinator will plan and organize meetings and workshops in coordination with network participants; responsibilities will include communicating with network participants and stakeholders; organizing meetings; editing and distributing literature reviews, technical papers, and recommendations; and preparing materials for committee meetings. Responsibilities of this position include development of communication strategies and resources including creating and maintaining Web sites, writing, editing, and designing newsletters, and producing annual reports and research catalogs. The position will act as primary contact for the research community and the public on Penobscot River science and diadromous species restoration projects, and represent project interests at community events. The position will facilitate grant writing and coordination for specific project proposals, and seek grant opportunities for other related projects.
Requirements include excellent communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively and creatively within a team environment but independently when necessary, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. BA/BS degree is required; preference will be given to those applicants with a scientific background. Experience in editing scientific documents, web publishing and desktop publishing and appropriate software is preferred. Experience with grant writing and submission is helpful. Applicants should be familiar with issues pertaining to academic research, the Maine environment and water resources. Familiarity with UMaine/System procedures and policies is helpful.
This is a full-time, fiscal year appointment contingent on funding. Proposed Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, with full University benefits.
