Admissions and Financial Information

Admissions information and applications are available from the Graduate School. The Graduate School can be reached by phone at 207/581-3218 or by e-mail at graduate@maine.edu. On-line applications are available. Please note on the application under “Major Areas of Interest” that you are interested in the Water Resources option at the Mitchell Center.

Mitchell Center Research Assistantships

Masters Candidates

In 2006/07, M.S. research assistantships in the Water Resources option were $16,000 per calendar year. The Mitchell Center/University of Maine also provides a minimum of $869 per year toward graduate student health insurance. Additional summer compensation is possible, and up to 9 credits per semester of tuition is paid by the Mitchell Center. Including stipend, tuition, health insurance and summer salary, the total financial package totals more than $24,000.

Doctoral Candidates

Research assistantships for Ph.D. candidates in the Water Resources option were $18,000 per calendar year in 2006/07. A minimum of $869 is provided toward student health insurance by the Mitchell Center/University of Maine. Additional summer compensation is possible, and up to 9 credits per semester of tuition is paid by the Mitchell Center. Including stipend, tuition, health insurance and summer salary, the total financial package totals more than $27,000.

In a state where the cost-of-living is comparatively low, these research assistantships are very competitive.

Financial Aid

Student Financial Aid administers several financial aid programs to help University of Maine graduate students finance their education. Office staff award, process, and disburse financial aid for University of Maine students, and advise students and their families, the campus community, and the general public on issues related to financial aid.
