Educational Programs

The Mitchell Center is involved with several education initiatives throughout the state.

Project WET (Water Education for Teachers)
An interdisciplinary water science and education program for formal and non-formal educators of K-12 students.

Penobscot Riverkeepers
On-the-river experiences for students throughout the Penobscot River watershed.

Northern Maine Children's Water Festival
One-day event that brings together over 800 students and their teachers to learn about Maine's water resources.

Acadia Partners for Science and Learning
The Mitchell Center has partnered with Acadia Partners and several other organizations to connect working scientists with high school teachers to provide the teachers with training in summer institutes and with ongoing support during the school year so that they can improve their ability to support inquiry-based, student-directed field research. Examples of some projects can be found on the Acadia Partners Web site.

A Field Guide to Aquatic Phenomena
This on-line reference guide explains some of the amazing (and natural) aquatic phenomena that can be found in Maine's lakes and streams.
