The Penobscot River Synthesis, a project of the Senator George J. Mitchell Center began in 2005 as a literature review and data inventory of past and current research in the Penobscot River and its watershed. Anticipating increased interest in the river as the Penobscot River Restoration Project moved forward, the project aimed to provide scientists, educators, and communities with needed information on Penobscot River ecology and environmental history. The synthesis project was initially funded by the U.S. Geological Survey Water Resources Research Institutes program and the Atlantic Salmon Federation.
The Penobscot River Synthesis project is no longer active. Additional information on science and research on the Penobscot River is now available at the Penobscot Science Exchange at the Diadromous Species Restoration Research Network web site.
Penobscot Basin documents and data sets are now available at the Gulf of Maine KnowledgeBase.
