FIELD SKILLS
Surface water sampling in lakes, rivers, and estuaries for comprehensive chemical analysis, including anions, cations, trace metals, nutrients, volatile organic compounds, and petroleum. Experience using throughfall collectors, autosamplers, dissolved oxygen meters, salinometers, secchi disk, porewater samplers; groundwater well development, sampling, and monitoring; soil and sediment sampling, marsh sediment coring, hydric soil identification; vegetation identification and sampling techniques, especially freshwater and coastal wetland plants; watershed surveys and development of watershed plans including best management practices for water quality protection; wetland and floodplain delineation, mitigation, and restoration; preparation of wetland permit applications, reports, and regulatory filings; Phase I and II environmental site assessments, including historical research, records review, site visits, site plan drafting, and report writing; small boat handling, including canoes, kayaks, sailboats, and motorboats; backcountry hiking/snowshoeing to remote lakes and streams requiring use of map, compass, GIS and GPS.
