Account Requests

You're just a few steps away from making your Web site a part of the University of Maine community!

Below is all the information you'll need to establish your department or affiliated organization's Web site and have it linked within the official University of Maine Web site.

You'll need to request an account on one of the University of Maine Web servers.  This is accomplished using the registration forms outlined below and will initiate the creation of your account on the chosen Web server.   You may use a general Web editor with either server.  If the UMaine Web server, www.umaine.edu, is chosen, you may take advantage of the features provided by Microsoft FrontPage.  The other UMaine server, www2.umaine.edu, provides access to PHP and MySQL, but doesn't support FrontPage-specific features.

  1. Review the Official Standards for UMaine Web Sites
Review of these standards will help ensure that your Web site meets the requirements needed to be officially linked from the University of Maine Web site.

  2. Review the URL Naming Policy for UMaine Web Sites
Review of this policy will help ensure that your new Web site URL is as intuitive and user-friendly as possible.

  3. Request an account on the appropriate Server:

    a.
Request an Account on the www.umaine.edu Web server

This will initiate the process of setting up an account.  With an account on the www.umaine.edu server you'll be able to use Microsoft FrontPage to do all of your Web page creation.  This UMaine server supports FrontPage publishing as well as FTP access.  It does not offer PHP or MySQL.

    b.
Request an Account on the www2.umaine.edu Web server
This will initiate the process of setting up an account.  With an account on the www2.umaine.edu Web server, you connect via FTP and may use of PHP and MySQL if you desire.  You may use FrontPage as a general Web editor if you don't require the FrontPage specific features.  This server does not support FrontPage extensions.
