H. rufipes in captivity were offered yellow foxtail, velvetleaf, wild mustard, and hairy galinsoga seed, and the resultant damage is shown. We did not detect any species preference by the beetles, and upon handling seed they immediately began eating it, which we use as evidence that seed removal experiments represent predation, not caching.
