  Job Title: Biologist III 

Reporting Relationship: The position will report directly to the Director of Biology. 

Location: Darling Center Walpole, Maine 

Salary: Full time with benefits (salary dependent on experience) 

Job Description: 

The Biology III position will participate in, and as appropriate, oversee specific scientific, production, and quality control activities associated with health and maintenance of primary micro algal cultures. This position will maintain important primary algal cultures of interest and execute scientific activities related to the optimization of targeted algal strains. 

Position Requirements: 

 Growth and maintenance of select algal strains at the Maine facility. 

 Data management and interpretation related to algal cultures at the Maine facility. 

 Work closely with the Director of Biology-Maine. 

 Meet reasonable deadlines and schedules as specified by the Director of Biology-Maine 

 Record and communicate all relevant activities on site 

 Organize and complete multiple tasks on a daily basis 

 Help to oversee the development and execution of scientific activities 

 Maintain laboratory equipment and components 

 Maintain QA/QC standards for algal cultures 

 Assist in executing experiments in conjunction with BioProcess Algae’s R&D team 


 Insure all applied scientific agendas are accurately and precisely carried out in a timely manner 

 Work to enhance and develop biological and operational protocols for production activities 

 Provide scientific support for reports 

 Draft site reports and updates on a scheduled basis 

 Maintain a safe work environment 

 Available for occasional weekend/holiday duty as part of a rotating shared responsibility with the other staff 


Skills of Interest: 

 Experience and knowledge of microalgal culturing techniques-commercial and/or academic scenarios 

 Experience with microbiological techniques and processes 

 Working knowledge of chemistry/biochemistry as it applies to live culture scenarios 

 Experience with algal fermentation/heterotrophic scenarios 

 Significant experience with data interpretation and manipulation
